while we’re waiting…

It was exactly one year ago today when a large group of you kind people decided to come out to see a completely unknown Hip Hop (Fusion?) band named St. Bagu live at the Congress Theater. A band with a weird name mispronounced 95% of the time, an unconventional look to say the least, and no live experience as a unit. You didn’t come out to see us because your favorite act was in town, you probably just came because you were being good friends and relatives (HI MOM!). You came and watched us perform in the most muddy sounding room you’ll ever hear. You watched us turn a marble staircase into a live stage. You probably didn’t understand a word we were saying but you nodded your head with sweet violent rhythm. And you probably saw my bare chest through my soaked in sweat white shirt (bad color choice). On that day you were a great support to us, and every day since, from the ones who have been added to the family along the way to the ones who witnessed that day 1 of St. Bagu, you have continued to be a great support to us. You are blessings, you are gifts, and I say this in complete honesty, WE DO THIS FOR YOU. We do this because the airwaves are polluted with misdirection, and we KNOW Hope, and must strive to make Hope known. It is essential. It cannot be done without. Why waste words? Why use a gifting to curse?

I digress though this is about you St. Bagu faithful. To commemorate our 1 full year of rocking live sets with you all, we’d like to give YOU a gift and announce that in 2 weeks time on 5/14 we will be releasing a free EP of new songs to keep you company until our full band FULL LP “Crash/Boom” comes out later this year. We hope you enjoy the songs, and ask that you share with everyone you know (IT IS FREE AFTER ALL). Share it because you believe in the mission. Share it because you love the music. Share it because you believe in silly things like a set of songs can impact lives and start a movement rooted in Truth. We made a promo video, feel free to view it and do what you wish with it. We love you all, and want to thank you for giving us an unforgettable first year! As always, LIVE BIG, LIVE CAPSLOCK!

So here’s a great song about love and wooing our girls. It depicts the real engagement of our favorite peach colored mc, Tony Pozdol, and the fun/ romantic date I took my wife the same day. Take a listen, download and tell us what you think! Also, with the atmosphere of giving going on, please take a minute to vote for St. Bagu in our battle to win the Shure Give it Voice Battle of the Bands. We need all the help we can get, voting closes Feb. 18. Vote everyday and with every email you got!

just write

By: Tony

Greetings world!

I haven’t really written anything on here in quite some time. Honestly I don’t even know what I’m going to write about I just felt like writing something. I just know I want to write something different than the usual show plug, good news announcement, band progress report, etc…

I think there’s a lesson in that alone. That lesson being, writing even when you don’t have anything specific to write about. Oftentimes as a writer, I find myself waiting for this amazing concept or this themed blog or this super punch-line and metaphor filled song. But then days and weeks go by when I don’t write.

I think when examining music there is no denying that music has a way when done right of just getting inside us and stirring us up to some kind of thought process or string of emotions. It happens almost effortlessly. I find this is even more the case when something feels like it was created straight from the heart.

The truth of the matter is in life we don’t ALWAYS have to wait for the words. We don’t always have to mask everything in cleverness and neatly wrapped word packaging. Sometimes we just have to write. We just have to let the true and honest expression of our hearts speak, and I think people are relieved some times and even encouraged to find something like that because it’s simply REAL in a world where much is all show, and plastic. I think deep down we long for the genuine.

So if you’re a creator or gifted person of any kind, sometimes you just have to walk up to the blank canvas and start painting. You don’t always need a plan, but you do need to express, and this gifting you have shouldn’t be reserved for only times when the muse strikes, nope a lot of times what comes from your heart is the ART.

I didn’t know what I wanted to write today, but I wrote and I’m glad I did. I waste a lot of time truthfully, planning out every detail of my life and getting caught in the routine. I think this is a time where I just have to move and live life, rather than letting life happen to me.

On that note friends, as always my hope is that you are experiencing abundant fulfilling life. If things are rough and that’s not the case, my prayer is that would become your reality. Actually let it be the reality for us all. So be well, be safe, love people selflessly, and live big, LIVE CAPSLOCK!

After a good meeting with a good friend, me and Tony, my other good friend, took a listen to a good album we were a part of a good 5 years ago. Needless to say, we realized just how good it was today and wanted to share a bit of it with the rest of you who might not have had the good opportunity to have heard it in it’s heyday. Here goes, “Influence” from the 2005 UI Family release, “Contact”. Enjoy! (Shout out to my brother Esohel!)
