fave five friday: jetlagged edition

By: Jason
HOME SWEET HOME! Its been a wild last couple of weeks. As you can see from all of the activity on the site recently we have been keeping ourselves pretty busy here at St.Bagu HQ. Our trip to Shanghai has been well documented. There are tons of pics and videos for your enjoyment. But now its back to reality. Getting back home was bitter sweet. Home= sweet. Getting back (flight)= bitter. I had to work the day after we got back. Probably one of the most depressing moments of my life. I was way too jetlagged. We arrived in Chicago at about 4:35 pm CST…or 5:35 am in China. I wanted to sleep as soon as i got back. My mind was telling me no, but my body, my body was telling me yeah! So i fought it off thinking id sleep like a baby that night. Wrong. I must have gotten at most 2 hours of sleep. Needless to say i was pretty useless at work the next day. Anyways (i promise im getting to the list soon), when i got back to work i was told id be working at a new position. i didnt make much of it since i always get moved around this office. This position however came with new hours…drumroll please…..5:30 am to 2 pm! I jumped at the opportunity to get out of work at 2pm. Ill be honest i didnt really put too much thought into the 5.30 am part but so far this has been the best thing that has ever happened to me at this job. So today’s list is my FAVE FIVE Reasons To Work The Early Bird Shift:

1. Peace and Quiet
This doesnt apply just to the fact that my office building is empty at the time i arrive in the morning. This applys to the entire city! Everybody is still in bed. No traffic in the morning. Plenty of Parking. No lines at Dunkin’ Donuts. No phones ringing. No coworkers around to tell me about stuff i dont really care to hear about. It’s almost therapeautic. Silence truly is golden.

2. The Haters
People hate me when they see me walk out the doors with a smirk on my face. Why? Because everybody knows the most dreadful hours of any work day are from 2-5. By that time you have already finished your sudoku, you gave up on that crossword puzzle, and lunch has been over for about 2 hours now. Its nothing but dead time. And by dead time i mean you wish you were dead.

3. Extra Daylight
It’s emotionally and mentally taxing to step out at 5pm all fall and winter long to see nothing but darkness. Cabin fever can set it real quick. Now ill so much more time to do activities!

4. Cures Insomnia
I dont sleep well at night. And while the new shift technically doesnt “cure” my insomnia, it fits in perfect with my already dysfunctional sleeping habits.

5. Golf Conditioning
I took up golfing at the beginning of 2009. I have been hooked ever since. But if you have ever played a round of golf in the afternoon on a summer day, you know how hot and how backed up the courses can get. The best time to golf is at the crack of dawn. The courses are damp and cool from the morning dew so they are ideal to play on. The pace of play is a lot better too since there arent too many people out there that early. The problem is that…well…who really wants to get up at the crack of dawn on the weekend? Well now i will never miss a morning tee time again therefore saving me money since golf courses take your credit card number down just in case you try to no show them.

So there you go. Dont put too much stock into this list thoough. Im sure ill end up writing a list for all the reasons i start to hate this shift. But we will cross that bridge when we get there. DEUCES!!!
