Thoughts on Congress

By: Tony
Sounds like I’m about to get political, right? WRONG! It’s been a whole four days since St. Bagu went live @ The Congress Theatre. How did it go? How did it feel?

It went very well, thanks for asking. I learned a few things first hand that night. One of them being, a truly passionate and talented band doesn’t make excuses, they make improvements! In other words a band shouldn’t let their circumstance dictate what they do. So sure the sound and acoustics were off in the mighty tall room. Heck every band knew this was coming in sound check. However should that hurt us and keep us from putting on a genuine heartfelt live show? NEVER!

We had fun man. I definitely know I did. Anyone who saw me could attest to the fact that I sweat profusely. There was a ton of energy in that place from us to the crowd who came out to support.  I’ve been mumbling about a dream and a vision for a long time. I understand why people may have just nodded along never truly grasping what I was getting at was possible. But honestly, last Thursday @ The Congress, and with the release of our EP, I don’t believe I’m mumbling about this dream and vision any more. I went from mumbling it a week prior to shouting it alongside the band living in a real moment with a crowd of people. A crowd of people, I think, who may just believe in us too. And it goes both ways, because I believe in the crowd of people. I believe music is more than a way to generate income and milk the latest fads. I believe music can penetrate and move the soul from within. I believe that this crowd of people who share in these live evenings with us deserve to have not just art for art’s sake anymore, but art with hope, and an empowering message. I believe in this crowd who is tired of the nothing more than meets the eye stuff they are fed.

So how do I feel? I feel great. Things are in motion. The songs are OUR(you and the band’s) songs now. We have engaged in the first of MANY great live conversations. And all I can feel truly is gratitude. Gratitude towards Chase Elementary for partnering with us on the evening. Gratitude for my bandmates, official and “unofficial.” For our wives who let us spend so much time together creating. A lot of gratitude also for the people who came specifically to see us. I appreciate your support more than you know. You guys made an insane amount of noise and had me convinced the place was full with such great responses. And all of such gratitude is impossible without my Savior. Thanks to YOU forever. YOU put the dream inside of me, gave me the gift, the vision, and the promise. YOU treat me far better than I could ask. THANKS!

We will be seeing all you Grown Downs this fine month of May!!! LIVE BIG!!! LIVE CAPSLOCK!!!
